Bad Senior Portraits

It got me thinking about high school kids now. They all look so... old. It's either media influence or growth hormone build-up after years of fast food, but girls definitely look way more mature now than they did when I was in high school. Hell, I'm still waiting for my breasts to grow.

That brings me to a little search I did of high school Senior portraits which left me thinking, "What the hell?"

This girl is a high school senior? What was it I said about girls looking way more mature than I ever did when I was in high school?

Somewhere, High School Musical is missing Corbin Bleu. All the hip kids are doing it.

This pose does not make this baseball player cool. Baseball players are already cool without having to act like Wild Thing in Major League. He is going to look back at this and think, "I thought I was sooo cool. Turns out, notsomuch."

Shortly after this picture was taken, Snidley Whiplash came by and tied her up, yet, Dudley DoRight never came to her rescue.

What is it with posing these girls on the train tracks? I feel like they're all destined to jump into a car and join the circus.

Finally, this girl is going to graduate high school with a 3.9 average, go to a liberal arts college and regularly smoke cloves outside of a radio station. She reminds me of me.

i think posing these girls is (though horrible) kind of sadly accurate...they're "on a long road to nowhere", they are "unable to take the path less traveled and instead must stay on a pre-planned route", or my favorite, "they have no idea they are about to be hit by a real train...in the form of the actual real world"...but perhaps i'm just reading too much into it because their pictures annoy me. :)

Holly,

When I was in high school ('81 - '84), we were allowed to be geeky and awkward. It was how we found ourselves. The cliques were obvious: Cowboys, Stoners, Jocks, Pops, Band Geeks, Drama F*gs, Punkers & Wavers. But most were just "students". Some drifted through different groups (myself: Band Geek as a Sophomore, Drama F*g as a Junior, and I graduated as a Punker), but we developed our own personalities. The problem I perceive is now the media is defining the teen culture. In the '80's it was organic. A transfer student brought a new look or a smuggled air tape from WLIR in New York expanded our "underground" attitude. Now, the hyper-sexualized Hollywood teens and the 24/7 coverage of their bad behavior are defining teen culture. The new looks are packaged and sold from The Hills to The Girls Next Door. 12-year-old girls are shopping Victoria's Secret and their mother's think it's cute. It becomes really hard to be ironic when your parents shop at Hot Topic.

I don't remember you being geeky as a senior in high school. Maybe because I was too busy trying to get you to make out with me.

Although, check this action out:

Granted, that was my freshman year in college, and my senior year in high school...but seriously. Really?

I should start using the preview button.

Kel: Agreed!

Darren: Agreed! In fact, when I was in high school I don't think thong underwear was even invented.

Kris: CUTE! I forgot your hair was long... we did make out, you didn't have to work very hard to convince me. As long as you still called me "Holly." ;)
